Hand Painted Tiles and Ceramics by Elizabeth Emmens-Wilson

Here we show off stunning unique tiling and ceramics by Elizabeth Emmens-Wilson.

When Elizabeth was 16 she went to an evening class with her Mother and has been painting onto ceramics ever since. Her works uses a combination of ceramics glazes lustres and tubelining (A ceramic technique involving a very steady hand!) The process of tubelining is similar to Moorcroft Ceramics, but the use of coloured and textured glazes painted with lustres and metals gives the finished pieces an iridescence. Elizabeth later graduated from Staffordshire Polytechnic in 1992 with a degree in Surface Pattern and CAD and has since been self employed. A brilliant achievement; Full Stop.

She has recently been working on quite a few community and charity projects including upcycling projects with the charity, Emmaus and SAM’s Scrapstore in Blackburn which encourages the reuse of resources such as clean scrap waste materials from businesses. Their work benefits over 6 million children and vulnerable adults; a great incentive to get involved. Elizabeth says that getting people involved in arts and crafts is great for mental health and self esteem. This led me to do a bit of googling! I discovered Lime, an award-winning arts charity which works endlessly to demonstrate how arts can be utilised for enhancing lives. They have been coordinating various projects within the healthcare system for around 25 years. Have a look at their artists in Residence here.

Elizabeth has recently gone back to designing fabrics, another great talent she has! Have a look at her Spoonflower Shop where you can find designs which are inspired by photographs she has taken and embroidery samples.
